Dr. Tong Wen, Distinguished Alumnus of Southeast University, Was Awarded 2018 Outstanding Industry Leader Award by IEEE

Recently, IEEE announced that Dr. Tong Wen, distinguished alumnus of Southeast University and chief scientist of Huawei wireless communication, was awarded “2018 Distinguished Industry Leader Award” to commend his leading technology contribution and leadership in the mobile communication industry as well as his innovation in 5G mobile communication technology. The award ceremony was held on December 10 at IEEE Globecomm conference as convened in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. This is the second time that the alumni of Southeast University has won this award after Li Zhengmao, Vice President of China Mobile who won the prize last year.

IEEE, referring to International Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is the most authoritative academic organization in the field of electrical and electronic information technology, and also the world's largest non-profitable professional technology association at present with more than 400,000 members in more than 160 countries and regions. The “Outstanding Industry Leadership Award” is awarded to experts who highlight leadership and have achieved significant breakthroughs in the field of industry, etc.. Li Zhengmao and Tong Wen are the only two Chinese communication experts who have won this award. They all graduated from the State Key Laboratory of Mobile Communication of Southeast University, learning after Professor Wu Boxiu, the initiator of the communication discipline.

Tong Wen, male, visiting professor of Southeast University, graduated from the Department of Radio Engineering of Nanjing Institute of Technology (the current School of Information Science and Engineering, Southeast University) in 1984, and continued to pursue the Master's Degree in Communication and Information System at our school. He studied further in Canada in 1989 and finally obtained Ph. D.. In 2009, he became the chief scientist of Huawei's wireless communication and once won many honors such as one of the top ten news figure of 2016 China Science Year. In addition, he has been awarded Huawei Fellow, Nortel Fellow, IEEE Fellow and Academician of the Royal Canadian Academy of Engineering. At present, as one of the most renowned communication experts in the world, he has made outstanding contributions to the 5G standards with significant influences both in the academic and the industrial arena.
